Run at Big Foot Beach State Park, Lake Geneva.
Not a good race and extremely disappointed especially being my first race back after years of not competing.
All I can attribute it to is too many high expectations. I'm a competitor that hasn't competed in a long time. My last 10K race was about 15 years or more ago... Probably more as I think the last road race I did was ALS Run when I was about 31.
So high expectations without having a clue as to what to rally expect at all. The Clearwater staff all expecting, or at least me perceiving them expecting, me to win or at least to do very well. ... Too much pressure!
So at the start I went out too fast and I couldn't regain my breath. I was in panic mode the while race and I couldn't recover it. My arms got heavy, my legs would barely move, and girls in tutus were passing me like I was standing still! This was not the picture I had intended to represent my racing comeback!
BUT strangely enough I had a dream the night before that Donny and I were slowly running the course the day before the race. There were others on the course actually going race pace which I couldn't figure out. I had to keep stopping to stretch my tendons and I felt like crap. In this race that dream came back to me. It was premonition / vision of how the race would be. Also didn't win an auction item I was going for right before the race. My focus wasn't there as I didn't have a true focus. I focused on what I wanted but what was and not what is... Therefore the confidence wasn't there ..
After that race I was down. Too many things were on my mind too. Lotti had just been diagnosed with cancer, my tendons were just beginning to shape up, and I had no idea where I was as far as race shape.
Next time I'd ficus on having fun, going out slow and then feeling where I am ..
